The Other Side in April

about

This is a submission to Naviar Records' contest 'Poetry in Sounds #2- Everything Never Comes Your Way by Nicole Stellon O'Donnell'

The inspiration for this ambient soundscape composition is the poem 'The Other Side in April' whose lyrics are as follows:

'It's not greener. Admit it.
Muddy, punctuated
with burned spots
from the dogs.
Over the fence, familiar,
the other side lies.

Stand on tiptoe.

This late
spring
snow clings
to the fence posts
and paced paths,
months of boot prints
that won't melt
until May.

It's all the same,
persistent
unmelting.
In every yard,
a playhouse
buckling
under the pressure.'

The poem reminded me of the solitary and sometimes lonely childhood I spent in the country especially during the winter months. With the quietness of the recording, I have attempted to reflect that solitude, and the feelings I had as a child in the winter wilderness.
